That's where accountability comes in! ๐
It can be a real game-changer by helping you stay organised, manage your time better, and keep you focused on your goals. With the right strategies and support, accountability can make those challenges easier to handle and help you drive your business toward success.
Let's dive into how accountability can make a big difference in your business journey!
What does accountability mean?
For ADHD and Neurodivergent business owners this can feel incredibly tough, it seems simple from the outset but then feels impossible to actually follow through on.
Challenges faced by neurodivergent business owners
Neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with ADHD & ASC*, often can experience up to a 30% delay in their executive functioning. These are things like planning, organisation, and time management.
Itโs these challenges that can make staying accountable to ourselves extremely difficult. You can feel like you are never moving forward on a project no matter how many deadlines you set. You could come up with a thousand and one ideas and never implement any of them! That can lead to frustration, self-doubt, confidence issues and more.
However, implementing accountability can serve as a valuable tool for improving executive functions and overcoming these obstacles. By providing structure, guidance, and support, accountability mechanisms can help ADHDers strengthen their planning abilities, enhance organisational skills, and manage their time more effectively.
Benefits of accountability
Accountability has several benefits for ADHD business owners including increased productivity, reaching goals and personal development. It can help you build habits, help you find consistency that works for you and contribute to long-term success.
These proactive strategies foster greater self-regulation and enable neurodivergent business owners to navigate the complexities of business ownership with greater confidence and success.
Strategies for effective accountability
Creating our own accountability can be especially challenging when we know our executive functions are affected. However, some strategies can help.
๐ One approach is to break down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Check out Goblin tools!
๐ You can use tools like to-do lists, calendars, and reminders to keep track of what needs to be done while having the deadline/alarm to hold you accountable.
๐ Use project management tools to plan your projects and goals while setting clear timelines and deadlines to achieve them.
๐ Regular check-ins with a coach, mentor, or accountability partner can provide support. I have known clients who have called their parents and asked them to hold them accountable.
๐ Communities like my new Action Circle offer group body doubling sessions and accountability check-ins, which can be incredibly helpful in providing the guidance and community support necessary to stay on track.
These strategies can make it easier to manage tasks and keep moving forward, even when it feels tough.
The power of support systems
Support systems play a vital role in providing structure and guidance for neurodivergent business owners.
Accountability can come from many forms of support including family, friends, a team member, VA, support worker, coach and even some therapists.
As an ADHD Practitioner I have seen first-hand the impact accountability has had on my clients from myself and support workers they may use. I also know this myself as an ADHDer.
Accountability for success
Accountability serves as a cornerstone of success for ADHD business owners providing structure, support, and motivation in your journey. By embracing accountability and leveraging the resources available, you can work through obstacles and take action towards your goals.
